Steven Gerrard launches his charity – The Steven Gerrard Foundation

Steven Gerrard has launched his own charity – the ‘Steven Gerrard Foundation’ (SGF). The aim of SGF is to generate as much money as possible to provide additional funding for a range of children’s charitable organisations and projects. Fairbridge and the Children’s Hospice, Claire House, are two of the first projects chosen to be supported by SGF.

SGF is supported by the Consortium for Street Children whose expertise will ensure the Foundation is managed effectively, guaranteeing that the money raised will make a real difference to the lives of young people across a range of deserving charities.

The focus of SGF is to provide relief to children and young people in need, whether through illness, family breakdown, disability, involvement in the streets, financial or educational disadvantage.

Whilst operating both in the UK and worldwide, SGF will have particular focus in Stevens’ home town of Liverpool.

Having grown up and spent the majority of his life in Liverpool, Steven has seen firsthand the challenges faced by children. SGF enables Steven to make a lasting difference and he will himself be actively involved, including a role in the grants analysis board, personal financial investment as well as visiting many of the supported projects.

Relevant organisations can apply for grants through the Steven Gerrard Foundation grants board as of mid 2011, details will be available on the SGF website. The independent board will evaluate applications and select successful recipients.

“I am delighted to launch this Foundation ” said Steven. “The money raised will help give thousands of disadvantaged children a brighter future here in the UK and beyond. I am looking forward to working with SGF’s partners and helping make a lasting difference to children’s lives.”

“It is fantastic that Steven wishes to support children’s charities in this way. SGF will benefit many children in the future and CSC is thrilled to be working with him in establishing and managing his Foundation” said Sally Shire, CEO of CSC.

Sportcel Marketing are handling event marketing and communications for the Foundation and are in the development stages for a major fundraising event in Portugal in the summer of 2011. This will be the first of many events to be staged under the SGF banner. Rob Owen, Director of Sportcel said “We are looking to create a series of events throughout the year and to draw on Steven’s popularity and influence to ensure we maximise every opportunity to raise the much needed funds for this worthy cause”.
